Open Adoption - Peace of Mind for You and Your Child
In choosing open adoption, your child will grow up knowing about the love that went into the adoption plan. Your child will grow up "whole" as well as loved. At the same time, all open adoptions are as unique as the families and birthparents that plan them. Sometimes the birthparents' entire families, including the birth grandparents, maintain contact with the child.
Sometimes a birthmother who is already parenting a child wants ongoing contact between that child and the child she is placing with adoptive parents. With birthparents that prefer relationships with little or no ongoing contact, they want to know that "the door is always open." Birthparents stay in touch through letters, photographs, e-mail, phone calls, and visits.
Most importantly, the birthparents and adoptive parents themselves - not the agency or an attorney, make the key decision in the adoption plan. Experienced social workers help birthfamilies and adoptive families facilitate an adoption that works for everyone.
When is Open Adoption the Right Choice
We have worked with birthparents from the ages 13 - 40. Each one had reasons of their own for choosing adoption. Many are not ready to be parents right now. Others already have a child/children and they are unable to care properly for another.
- She decides that open adoption can give her baby the best start in life, and
- She is determined to choose the best family.
- She wants two parents who are eager and ready to become parents.
- She is not ready to be a parent, but wants to always know how her child is doing.
- She knows that raising a baby is not a good way to fix a relationship that is not working.
- She wants to complete her education or start her career.
- She and her partner are together, but are not ready to raise a child.
CSS FAMILY BOARDING HOME offers a safe caring place for those who need it. There is a per diem charge that is refunded for those who make an adoption plan. Schooling and medical care are available.
