Our New Pope
On April 19, 2005, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger of Germany became
Pope Benedict XVI. As he appeared on the balcony of St. Peter's
Basilica, the newly elected Pope called himself "a simple, humble
worker." All over the world, church bells rang in celebration of our
new Pope.
A young Michael Russo had the fortune of meeting Cardinal Joseph
Ratzinger while attending seminary in 1983. Father Russo was a 23
year old senior at Holy Trinity Seminary in Dallas, when Cardinal
Ratzinger paid a visit. The cardinal was then the president of the
Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith as well as of the
Pontifical International Theological Commission.
